The Progress of Redemption

Humanity is known for struggling with God. We were created by Him and for Him (Col 1:17), but we cannot fully understand Him. Our generation has a glimpse at who God is and what exactly He is doing through the Bible. The next few pages retell small portions of the Bible through the eyes of children. Some names had to be added as the characters are not all recorded, though most of them are. I am not claiming that these are accurate portrayals of each characters emotions, but only what I imagine they might have been thinking or feeling considering the events they witnessed. My hope is that this shares a glimpse of the ongoing progress of redemption that God is working out for His glory.

Heartbroken and hurting, Miriam

Dear God,

Why is life so unfair? I hoped and prayed that You were real and would save us, and sometimes it looked like You were going to come through and now it seems like You aren't even there.

I begged and begged for a baby brother and I finally got one. My best friend Sarah begged too, and her mom had a baby too. Then, when our Mamas were pregnant, Pharaoh told the midwives to kill all the baby boys right when they were born, but Miss Shiphrah, the midwife, said that she believes in you so she told Mama to try to hide the baby (Ex 1:15-17). Miss Shiphrah let Sarah's baby brother live too. That's when I was sure You were real.

I was so happy, but then one day I went to Sarah's house and her mom was laying on the floor screaming. I got really scared! I waited until Sarah came outside and she was crying too. I asked her what was going on and I couldn't believe what she told me...The Egyptian officials who were on patrol heard her brother crying and knew it was a newborn's cry. They went into Sarah's house, found the baby, and killed him. Pharaoh had changed the law from killing at birth, to killing. He wants all the baby boys to be thrown into the Nile (Ex 1:22)!

I ran home to tell Mama about the new law and told her that if anyone heard our baby cry he would get thrown in the Nile! Mama just started going crazy! She said that she is going to put him in the Nile herself instead of having the officials throw him in there!

God, I just don't understand! Why can't we keep trying to hide him? He's been quiet so far and it's been 3 months! To put him in the Nile? God hurry, we need a deliverer! We need someone to save us from these mean Egyptians!
