The Progress of Redemption

Humanity is known for struggling with God. We were created by Him and for Him (Col 1:17), but we cannot fully understand Him. Our generation has a glimpse at who God is and what exactly He is doing through the Bible. The next few pages retell small portions of the Bible through the eyes of children. Some names had to be added as the characters are not all recorded, though most of them are. I am not claiming that these are accurate portrayals of each characters emotions, but only what I imagine they might have been thinking or feeling considering the events they witnessed. My hope is that this shares a glimpse of the ongoing progress of redemption that God is working out for His glory.

Thankful You're patient, Acsah

Dear God,

Sometimes I wonder why you ever even created humans. It seems like the world would have been a lot simpler if you only made plants and stuff, because they can't complain all the time. You should hear what it's like in my neighborhood! (well, You probably do, don't You?) Anyway, let me tell you all the great things that have happened and how these crazies reacted...

A long time ago, before I was born our whole nation lived inside of another nation. We were slaves in Egypt. I guess we had moved there during a famine and been very prosperous, but then all of the sudden one of the Pharaohs didn't like us and made us slaves. But anyway, during that time Pharaoh had said to kill all the new born baby boys and so they did, but there was one mom who made a basket and put her son into the Nile River and the princess found him and adopted him. She named him Moses (Ex 2:5-10). So his life was spared, but he grew up as an Egyptian. Then when he was older he did something bad and ran away from home. I guess that is when he learned about You (cause the Egyptians don't believe in You) because years later he came back and tried to set our nation free.

The problem was that Pharaoh was mean and he didn't want to lose his slaves. So Moses did miracles from You! 10 different ones! Pharaoh kept saying no until the very last one. Daddy says that was so sad, because that one was the death of the firstborns. I guess anyone who didn't put blood on their doorposts on a certain night woke up to find their firstborn dead (Ex 12). That was more than Pharaoh could handle and he sent us away.

Everyone was so happy and excited to go and thankful to You, but it didn't take long at all and they were all yelling at Moses and mad at You. But You kept on showing them miracles. You parted a sea for them to walk through, You wrote Your law on stone tablets, You were a cloud by day and fire by night, you gave them food and water in the desert! Wow! But they kept on doubting you. Daddy says that they finally made it to the land you promised them and he got to go in as a spy to check it out with 11 other guys. He remembers how scary it was, but he knew that with Your help they could do anything so when they got back he told them all how excited he was for the battle. But they were scared and turned away from You again, God! That's when you made us wander for 40 years in the desert. I was born during the wandering. At least I didn't have to go for all 40 years!

Now we are finally obeying You and taking back the land. It always fun to see all the men going off to battle. Daddy is pretty old now, but he always encourages the young soldiers and reminds them with You they have no reason to fear.

Thankful You're patient, Acsah
