The Progress of Redemption

Humanity is known for struggling with God. We were created by Him and for Him (Col 1:17), but we cannot fully understand Him. Our generation has a glimpse at who God is and what exactly He is doing through the Bible. The next few pages retell small portions of the Bible through the eyes of children. Some names had to be added as the characters are not all recorded, though most of them are. I am not claiming that these are accurate portrayals of each characters emotions, but only what I imagine they might have been thinking or feeling considering the events they witnessed. My hope is that this shares a glimpse of the ongoing progress of redemption that God is working out for His glory.

Your princess, Esther

Dear God,

When I used to dream of being a princess this wasn't exactly what came to mind. I am an Israelite, but I live in Persia now. See the Assyrians took over Israel and then the Babylonians conquered them and took Judah too. That is when My parents and cousin Mordecai were taken captive. The Persians soon took control, so that's how we ended up here. King Xerxes has at least been nicer to our people than those other kings were. Mordecai is the one who taught me all this history, because my parents are both dead (Esther 2:7).

But anyway, back to the princess story. Every little girl wants to be a princess, but it's scary when the kings officials come to collect you! See they took all the beautiful girls who weren't married (Esther 2:8) and I was chosen to be one of them. Now we live in the harem which is kind of like boarding school, and Mr. Hegai takes care of all of us. He is really nice and I think I'm his favorite. He moved me from the top bunk in a crowded room to the best place in this harem (Esther 2:9). I have 7 maids and I get beauty treatments every day. I have to finish a whole year before I am even allowed to see the king.

God, I don't know what You are doing, and it doesn't really make sense. It's lonely here and I miss Mordecai and all my friends back home, but I want to be used by You. Even if You ask me to do something crazy I am ready and willing to follow You (Esther 4:16).

Your princess, Esther
